In 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) celebrates its 76th anniversary. To mark this occasion, the WHO has chosen the theme “My Health, My Right” for World Health Day 2024. This theme highlights an important human right: access to good healthcare, education, and information.
Dr. Arjun Singh Shekhawat told regarding this year’s theme, that theme was chosen to champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.
The theme for this year’s World Health Day ‘My health, my right’ highlights that getting access to essential health services should no longer be a privilege but one’s right. As per The WHO Council on the Economics of Health for All, at least 140 countries recognize health as a human right in their constitution, yet countries are not passing and putting into practice laws to ensure their populations are entitled to access health services.
